Online Blackjack Rules

How to play blackjack online

Playing blackjack over the internet has become one of the most popular pastimes. Blackjack enthusiasts from all over the world play the game at their favorite online casinos over and over again. Some consider blackjack to be the only casino card game that provides players with an evident edge over the House. Members of the legendary MIT Blackjack team certainly counted on that particular edge when they developed an entire operation designed to beat casinos at their own game.

Online blackjack rules are actually the same as the rules of the traditional game played in land-based gaming venues. The only difference is that, when you play blackjack in a virtual environment, the overall experience is naturally less social than when you travel to a real casino simply because you are alone. However, playing in the comfort of your own home also has it's advantages. The gaming entertainment is available instantly and its obviously less expensive.

In general terms, a blackjack player has relatively few decisions to make. You should aspire to make the highest possible hand that does not exceed a total of 21 points. If you go over 21, you 'bust,' which is a blackjack term for losing. The game is played strictly against the dealer, meaning that the other players seated at your table play no role. The suits of blackjack cards do not have any impact on the game. The cards are valued as follows: an Ace can count as either one point or 11 points. Cards from 2 through 9 are counted for their face value. 10's, J's, Q's and K's are all worth 10 points.

Additional features for Online blackjack

Additional blackjack features include 'splitting,' 'doubling down' and 'insurance.'
If you happen to hold a hand with two cards of equal value, like JJ or 66, you are allowed to split them. The player who decides to split his hand will receive an additional card for each hand, but will also be required to place a bet of the same value as the original one each time he splits. If you happen to receive an Ace and a face-card in a split hand, it is not considered blackjack.

You are allowed to place an extra bet, not exceeding the original one, if your first two cards total 9, 10 or 11 (Aces not included). You will receive one additional card when doubling. The best time to double is when you believe that the third card will help you beat the dealer.

If the first blackjack card dealt to the dealer happens to be an Ace, you will be offered 'insurance' against the dealer making a natural (i.e. 21). If you decide to get the insurance, you'd be required to place an amount equal to half your original bet separately on the table. If the dealer does ultimately have blackjack, you would be paid 2:1 on your insurance.

You have probably already realized that online blackjack rules are pretty simple to follow. All you have to do is remain focused and enjoy the game. Good Luck!
