Online Baccarat Rules

The game and rules of Online Baccarat are some of the simplest you will find in online casino games – in no time at all you will feel like an expert! Baccarat is played with a banker and one or more players seated around a table. The object of the game is to obtain a hand with a point total closest to 9. Before the cards are dealt, players can place bets between £5 and £300 on the three possible outcomes: the banker’s wins, the player wins, or there is a tie. Bets are made by selecting the chip value that you require and then clicking on the section of the table for your chosen bet.

In the game, aces count as one; 2 to 9 count as their face value; tens and picture cards count as zero. It is also impossible to exceed nine or go bust, as with other card games - if the value of the hand is a two-digit number, the first digit is ignored and the second digit becomes the baccarat point value. For example: 7+8=15=5 and 9+3=12=2.

A Baccarat game begins with the players and dealer being dealt two cards face down. If a player or dealer has a hand that totals 8 or 9 (known as a ‘Natural’) both hands are turned face up and the hand closest to 9 is declared the winner. If the player and dealer have hands of equal value, a draw is declared and any non-tie bet is returned to the player. When no Naturals are drawn, extra cards are dealt.

If a natural has not been dealt, your hand’s value determines how the game proceeds. When your total card value equals 6 or 7, you must stand. Otherwise you take an additional card to determine your final Baccarat total.

The dealer’s move depends on both the value of his/her two cards and the player's third card. If the player stands, then the banker hits on a total of 5 or less. If the player draws a third card, the banker always takes a third card with a total of 0-2 and 3 and, with a total of 4,5 or 6, the dealer draws if the players third card was 2-7, 4-7 or 6-7 respectively. On a total of 7, the dealer always stands regardless of the players cards. Once the dealer’s move has finished, the cards are revealed and the player who has a total value closest to 9 wins.
